When I saw our bylaws said 'parliamentary authority,' I really didn't know what that meant. I ended up at NAP and I know it's the right place.

How to become a member of NAP

Membership in the  National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) is requires a basic understanding of parliamentary procedure. This is demonstrated by passing a 44-question exam based on Robert’s Rules of Order In Brief, 3rd Edition. Pass the exam with a minimum score of 75% and you can begin accessing all the resources and learning opportunities available to NAP members.

Below are the multiple options for taking the exam. Choose the one that best suits you and start your journey towards membership today!

> Stand-Alone Exam

The stand-alone membership exam is taken online and virtually monitored through the ExamSoft software Examplify, which must be downloaded to take the exam, and requires a separate fee of $29.55 paid directly to ExamSoft. The exam registration fee is $25, which will be applied toward your prorated dues upon passing.

> Self-Guided Study

The self-study online course Parliamentary Fundamentals, available through NAP University, is an excellent introduction to parliamentary procedure and its use in meetings. Purchasing the course will give you access to the content for 90 days. There is an optional NAP membership exam at the end of this course. The course fee will be applied toward NAP membership dues if the exam is passed within two attempts. Cost $199.

> NAP Membership Class

Periodically, NAP offers virtual membership classes through NAP University. The classes cover the basics of parliamentary procedure to prepare participants for the NAP membership exam. Recordings of the class are available for review for a short time after completion. Visit the Events Calendar in the NAP Portal  to see when the next class is scheduled.
