Essential documents that define an organization

One of the quickest ways to get to know an organization is to read its bylaws or constitution. There are typically a number of documents that guide the conduct of an organization. The traditional governing documents and their precedence are illustrated in the graphic at left. Below are links to the documents that govern  the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP). All links below are PDF files.

Bylaws

NAP’s bylaws are reviewed and approved at every biennial convention. 

Standing Rules

The standing rules relate to the details of the administration of the organization. 

Policies and Procedures

NAP Operational Policies & Procedures (NAPOPP) outline the implementation of the NAP Bylaws and procedures for national elected and appointed officers in the performance of their respective duties. 

Strategic Plan

The strategic plan outlines the desired future for NAP, and the steps it will take toward those goals. 

Body of Knowledge

The NAP Body of Knowledge outlines the duties of the parliamentary profession and the skills that are needed to execute those actions.

Articles of Incorporation

Document that outlines the incorporation of NAP as a Section 501(c)(3)  nonprofit.
