IN MEMORIAM
Mildred Maxine Alloway
|
INPLU Charter Member Maxine (Mildred) Alloway passed away peacefully on February 23, 2011, at home and surrounded by family. Born April 23, 1936, in Montana, Maxine was one of seven children of Jesse and Mildred Smith. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Clarence (Corky) Alloway; two children; two step-children; three grandchildren; and six siblings.
Maxine taught in both Idaho and Washington State in several different age groups, but completed her over-25 year career in adult special education at Lakeland Village in Medical Lake, WA. She had a Masters in Education and was part of the all-but-dissertation club, completing all of the course work and much of the research required for a PhD in Special Education. Maxine loved nature and created a bird sanctuary in her backyard, as well as taking part in community attempts to save local wetlands.
In addition to INPLU, Maxine was active in the Spokane-Alyce Baker Chapter of the American Institute of Parliamentarians, and several other groups: Lady Shriner (Past High Priestess), Daughters of the Nile (Past Queen), White Shrine (Past Worthy High Matron), Past President of the Masonic Temple Board, State and Local Retired Educators (Parliamentarian for Washington State) and Toastmasters. She was also very active at the Unity Church of Truth of Spokane, and was especially dedicated to her work in the Prayer Center.
Maxine was a wonderful wife, mother and friend, and put her heart into everything she did. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. |
