Inland Northwest Parliamentary Law Unit
About INPLU
The Inland Northwest Parliamentary Law Unit (INPLU), was chartered August 31, 2007, in Spokane, Washington, as a local unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians® (NAP). It is affiliated with the Washington State Association of Parliamentarians (WSAP), within NAP District 7.
INPLU normally meets on the third Tuesday of each month, except December, at 7:00 pm, at the Argonne Library, 4322 N. Argonne Road (Argonne Road and Upriver Drive), Spokane, Washington. Meetings last about an hour and a half, and usually include an educational presentation about parliamentary procedure, as well as a short business meeting. Guests are always welcome.
Joining INPLU
INPLU has three types of members: primary, affiliate, and provisional. An applicant for any type of membership must submit a properly completed Application For Unit Membership, and the required annual unit dues of $10.00.
Any member of NAP may become a primary member of INPLU by submitting a membership application, with unit dues, and selecting Primary as the membership type. The member also must notify NAP (and, if applicable, his or her former unit and association) of the change in status. Primary members have full membership rights in INPLU, WSAP,and NAP.
A primary member of any other unit may become an affiliate member of INPLU, while retaining primary membership in the other unit, by submitting a membership application, with unit dues, and selecting Affiliate as the membership type. If the member's primary membership is in a different association, the member also must join WSAP as an affiliate member. Affiliate members also have full membership rights in INPLU, WSAP, and NAP, but are not counted in determining the number of delegates to which the unit is entitled at the NAP Convention.
Any person not already a member of NAP, and who is interested in the study of parliamentary procedure may join INPLU as a provisional member by submitting a membership application, with unit dues, and selecting Provisional as the membership type. Provisional members are not members of NAP or WSAP, but with three exceptions, they have full membership rights within INPLU. The exceptions are that provisional members may not serve as President or Vice-President, as a delegate to the NAP Convention, nor as the unit representataive to the WSAP Board of Directors.
Joining NAP
A provisional member, or any other non-NAP member, who lists INPLU as his or her unit on the NAP Membership Application will become a primary member of INPLU and WSAP upon passing the NAP Membership Exam. NAP dues of $75.00 ($37.50 for a full-time student), plus WSAP dues of $10.00 (total $85.00, or $47.50 for a full-time student) must be submitted with the application. (See the NAP Dues Chart for a complete list of association dues for all associations.) Anyone wishing to study for the membership exam may download a copy of the Study Questions, or use the free online 300-Question Practice Exam.
