NAP Vision and Mission
The National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) has grown through the decades from a fledgling organization promoting democratic values and meeting leadership to a full-service organization serving the needs of professional parliamentarians, students learning leadership skills, adults who are new to parliamentary procedure or improving their meeting skills, and the general public.

To continue its successful growth in membership and services, NAP adopted a new vision statement in 2007 that describes the simple but far-reaching goal that drives its strategy:
NAP's vision is to provide parliamentary leadership to the world.
NAP provides leadership through its professional credentialing program, by partnering with other parliamentary organizations to establish a code of ethics for parliamentarians, by producing top-quality parliamentary products and services for the general public as well as for practicing parliamentarians through the NAP store, and by educating people of all ages and backgrounds in fair, effective meeting procedure.

These leadership activities are driven by the association's mission statement, also revised in 2007:
NAP is a society dedicated to educating leaders throughout the world in effective meeting management through the use of parliamentary procedure.
These bold vision and mission statements are supported by the association’s principles:

  • Reflect a commitment to fundamental parliamentary principles
  • Promote diversity, democratic decision-making and civic involvement
  • Maintain and enhance professional parliamentary credentialing standards
  • Provide convenient educational opportunities
  • Evaluate programs and services on an ongoing basis
  • Promote knowledge and awareness of parliamentary procedure
  • Maintain a fiscally and operationally sound organizational structure
  • Encourage partnerships and inclusiveness

NAP's principles, vision, and mission statement all provide a strong foundation for its strategic plan.
