PURPOSE
The purpose of the Michigan State Association of Parliamentarians (MSAP) is to study, promote, teach, and disseminate the principles of parliamentary law.
MISSION STATEMENT
To serve deliberative assemblies and educational establishments in the State of Michigan as an authority in correct democratic parliamentary procedure.
GOVERNING PRINCIPLES
Basic Principles:
- Protect the rights of the majority;
- Protect the rights of the minority, especially a minority greater than one-third;
- Protect the rights of the individual;
- Protect the rights of those not present;
- Protect the rights of all of these together.
Objectives:
- Expedite business;
- Maintain order;
- Insure justice and equality;
- Accomplish the society's purpose.
Addresses:
- Duties of officers, boards and committees;
- Order of business for meetings;
- Handling of motions and amendments;
- Purpose of other motions and their disposition.
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
To become a member of the Michigan State Association of Parliamentarians, you must also belong to the National Association of Parliamentarians. Detailed membership information is available “NAP Membership” page of the NAP Web site (click NAP Home on the left menu).
Membership dues vary based upon your membership status (regular, registered parliamentarian, or professional registered parliamentarian). In addition to NAP membership dues, members pay MSAP dues ($15.00 for unit members or $25.00 for members-at-large). Full-time students qualify for a reduced dues amount.
Individuals who have primary membership in NAP in another state may join MSAP as affiliate members for $15.00. Contact our treasurer for instructions on submitting affiliate membership dues.
