KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION OF PARLIAMENTARIANS
About KAP
The Kentucky Association of Parliamentarians, a nonprofit organization, was chartered in 1978 as a constituent division of the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP). NAP, organized in 1930, is the oldest and largest professional non-profit association of parliamentarians in the world. NAP is divided into eight districts. KAP is in District 2.
The object of this association (KAP Bylaws) shall be:
1. Bring into closer relationship the parliamentarians of the Commonwealth of Kentucky
2. Encourage interest and education in parliamentary law and to promote the educational
programs of NAP
3. Stimulate and assist in the formation of chartered units
4. Further the purposes of NAP and to uphold its ethics.
KAP provides educational workshops in parliamentary procedure at its annual meeting. These workshops are open to the public. Additional workshops may also be scheduled. Check the events calendar for a list of upcoming workshops.

Membership in KAP
Membership in KAP is through Unit membership or individually as a member-at-large. Membership in Units or KAP is not limited to residents of Kentucky. Student members of Units are not considered active members. Individuals preparing for NAP membership can join KAP.
How to Become a Member of KAP
To become a member of KAP, an individual is required to have membership in NAP. Any NAP member may join KAP. To qualify for membership in NAP one must demonstrate a basic knowledge of parliamentary law and its application by passing a membership examination prepared and administered by NAP. To achieve the Registered Parliamentarian (RP) designation a member demonstrates a more thorough knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised by passing the NAP 5-part registration examination. More information at, link: site-membertypes Registered Parliamentarians.
To achieve the Professional Registered Parliamentarian (PRP) designation, a RP member shall demonstrate at a NAP two-day Professional Qualifying Course ability to preside, serve as a meeting parliamentarian, and teach parliamentary procedure. A Retired Professional Registered Parliamentarian designation is the initials, PRP-R.
KAP Bylaws
KAP Bylaws are an adopted set of rules that define its structure and its internal governance.
Workshops, Study Groups, Speakers
KAP, the Units, and individual members are willing to conduct workshops, help organize study groups, or serve as speakers. Remuneration for such services is negotiable. NAP may be contacted when the service of a Professional Registered Parliamentarian is required.
NAP Official Publication
The official publication National Parliamentarian (NP) is published quarterly. Members receive the NP by virtue of NAP membership. It is available to nonmembers on a subscription basis.
