CHARLOTTE COUNTY
PARLIAMENTARIANS UNIT
The Charlotte County Parliamentarians Unit was organized as a member unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) on March 15, 1982 with five (5) members. Shortly thereafter the group was joined by Will Aitchison, the only Registered Parliamentarian on the Gulf Coast from Charlotte County.
CCPU is a teaching unit with classes for beginners, advanced students and NAP members wishing to become Registered Parliamentarians. CCPU's purpose is to study, teach and promote the principles of Parliamentary Procedure according to the current edition of Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised.
Port Charlotte is located on the south west coast of Florida between the cities of Sarasota and Fort Myers. The dominant geographical feature of this area is Charlotte Harbor, a large and beautiful body of water that attracts vacationers and year-round residents. Many of these residents live in organized housing areas and also belong to social and quasi-governmental organizations that take advantage of our parliamentary services.
The Unit now proudly has over fifty members. Currently, six (6) CCPU members have achieved the status of Professional Registered Parliamentarians and one (1) has achieved the status of Registered Parliamentarian.
CCPU is also proud to mention that five of its members are currently on the Board of Directors of the Florida State Association of Parliamentarians (FSAP). Eugene Coy is the President, Nancy Dauster is the First Vice President, Nancy Leighton is the Recording Secretary, Dave Gruman is the Treasurer and Dorothy Demarest is the Parliamentarian. Those five positions make up over one half of the Board and point to the fact that CCPU members actively participate in the current success and future planning of FSAP.
CCPU meetings are held on the second Thursday of the odd months of the year at the Fraternal Order of Police building at 23300 Harper Avenue in Charlotte Harbor, Florida from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Elections are held in March of the odd years and terms of office begin April 1st for a period of two years.
In the past twenty (25) years more than one thousand (1,000) people have attended our classes and have improved the quality of the meetings of their organizations.
The CCPU welcomes inquiries concerning parliamentary assistance and/or membership in NAP, FSAP and CCPU. Contact:
