NAP Educational Materials
As the leader in teaching and promoting the values of democratic decision-making, the National Association of Parliamentarians creates and publishes a wide array of educational resources.
For those who are new to parliamentary procedure, NAP provides materials for a variety of learning styles. The Cat Fanciers Club introduces parliamentary topics by following a single organization through twelve monthly meetings, demonstrating how an organization is formed, bylaws adopted and amended, officers elected, and business conducted. The Twenty-six Mini-Lessons and Questions on... series provide instruction on similar topics, but presented in small segments that can be studied in any order. The Pointers on Parliamentary Procedure book, with its companion workbook and teacher's guide, create a complete set of introductory materials for instructors and students of any age.
The Spotlight series provides approachable summaries of various parliamentary topics, including tips and tricks from experienced parliamentarians. Topics include officers' duties; planning and executing successful meetings, conventions, and workshops; and conducting nominations and elections. The Leadership in the Spotlight book includes the entire Spotlight series in a single bound volume.
Titles in the Pathways to Proficiency series provide and in-depth exploration of parliamentary topics for the intermediate to advanced learner. These books provide greater detail and more examples than given in parliamentary authorities such as Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised, as well as a wealth of practical advice from professional parliamentarians.
Finally, NAP provides materials that take a fun, alternative approach to learning parliamentary procedure. Parliamentary Puzzles reviews parliamentary facts and terminology, while Exceptions to the Rule is an extensive list of quotations from RONR where an exception to the general parliamentary rule is given—a great resource for brushing up on the details of these rules.
